Open-Air Drug Market

Last Friday, we read about how the residents of Harbor Lofts had taken an ad out in the Stranger welcoming people to the “Open-Air Drug Market” in their neighborhood, to draw attention to the pervasive drug dealing in the area.

Today the weather was nicer than we expected, so we took a walk around downtown Seattle for some fresh air and exercise. Megan picked up a copy of the Stranger, and in it she saw the Harbor Lofts ad. It reads like this:

Mayor Nickels & Cheif Kerlikowske
Welcome you to
Fortson Square’s
Open-Air Drug Market
(located at 2nd and Yesler)

So we walked over to Fortson Square, and true to the advertisement, the cops were busting somebody for something right there on the corner of 2nd and Yesler. We also watched them bust another guy in Pioneer Square a couple hours later. I loved the way the red flashing light reflected off his face.

Looks like the mayor and police chief got the message, at least for today. Here are a few photos from our walk (from King Street Station north to Belltown and back, with a bit of wandering around too) …
