Don’t Believe What You Read
I’ve flown Business Class six times in the last year, and every single time I found myself sitting next to somebody from Microsoft. I’ve even found myself sitting next to people from Microsoft a couple of times in economy class as well.
So it’s entirely plausible that a guy might find himself sitting next to Bill Gates on a commercial flight. And might chat with him for a couple of hours, and might then write it up and sell it as an exclusive interview with “Big Bill.”
But according to Microsoft’s Norway office, the story is a fake.
Speaking of which, the photo above is of Bill and Melinda playing golf with me and Megan. At Tyee, of course. Bill’s not a big hitter, but he’s murder on the greens. Melinda, on the other hand, can really crush it off the tee.

Okay, I left it for a while, but I’ll bite: are you serious about that picture? At Tyee, no less? And I assume when you say “playing golf with me and Megan” you mean some kind of companywide thing?

By the by, apparently there is some controversy about his scoring practices at all:

Tom, don’t believe what you read! Love the link, especially the catty “who’s math schlong is longer” stuff at the end.
I’ve done some searching asking around, and it seems there has been virtually no mention of Bill’s golf game lately. He still says that his hobbies are golf and reading, but I’m wondering if he plays golf in the same way some gays guys are married to women, if you know what I mean.

Dude, Ah trusted yew!
I had a feeling. Anyhow, it was hanging there for a while, and it seemed too good to pass up.
Yeah, I don’t imagine that being the controlling interest in a huge empire gives you a lot of time to golf, particularly if you want to keep a hand in everything. Still, it would be nice if he golfed more - I think golfing (the way WE do it, anyway, for fun and self-improvement) offers a certain moment to moment clarity that I wish more big-time execs understood. I feel like we’re all getting the short end of the stick because of someone’s bottom line or big picture.
Okay, I’ll admit it - I’m just trying to come up with something valid after gullibly biting on the dumb Bill Gates thing. Still, I think it couldn’t hurt …

OK….I wondered, too.

Thank you, Scott, but you don’t have to cover for me. I appreciate the effort, though!

Nah….just owning up to my own gullibility.
But it really isn’t outside the realm of possibility that Doug and Megan could somehow end up playing golf with Bill and Melinda.
….right?

I feel so shallow for having played a cheap trick like that. Now when Megan and I get a tee time with Bill and Melinda, nobody will believe it.

WOW! You have a tee time with Bill and Melinda?!?
