We have a couple of Macs and several PC's here. While both systems have their own unique foibles they each do their appointed tasks just fine with one thing in common - they all cost too much. I’d love to make an open-minded comparison between a state-of-the-art Mac and a state-of-the-art Windows machine. Following my recent hard drive explosion, the data recovery expert (who seems to charge more than your average neurosurgeon)asked a couple of questions and promptly stated: "Oh, it must be a Toshiba hard drive, probably around three years old." He's right, of course, and I'm looking at Dell. Everything gets too hot, and (in the case of the one I'm writing on now) the case shorts out and restarts the machine randomly (but only if you touch the speakers, which are placed directly under each palm when typing). I suspect it may not be any strain that you're putting on it that's making it die -- it may just be another Toshiba lemon. They've got the best keyboards outside of the ThinkPad, though. Particularly as the radiant heat from under the keyboard softens the keys so they mold over time to the exact resting position your fingers find.
