Top searches in the blogosphere

Last night, it occurred to me that it might be interesting to see what people were searching for on the internet. What was on everyone’s minds as the year came to a close?

Well, the screen shot to the right tells the tale — that’s a screen capture of Technorati’s most popular searches on New Year’s Eve. Saddam and Miss Nevada, of course.

Just now, as I was getting ready to post this, I thought I’d check whether those are still the top searches. As the shot to the left shows, Britney and Tammy Nyp have knocked Miss Nevada off the list today. Why?

After a little sleuthing, I think I discovered what happened. Some guy in Ireland hadn’t seen the Tammy Nyp story last February, and he created a self-fulfilling prophecy when he observed that the blogosphere was going “ballistic” about it today.

So now Tammy, the hapless cheerleader at Nanyang Polytechnic (Singapore) who lost a cell phone (some say it was stolen) with a video of her and her boyfriend having sex, gets yet another 15 minutes of fame. And that Irish guy seems to have his finger firmly on the pulse of the blogging public: his blog also includes links to Saddam execution videos and Britney Spears.

  1. Check it out — a quick Google search for Tammy Nyp (I couldn’t resist) produced a number 2 result for the technorati site. And what should be at the top spot there? Your blog, my friend. You are closer to legend than you have been in years!

  2. Man, I had no idea it was this easy.

I thought in order to get up there you had to take up politics, threaten to stop blogging, or tell everyone your next post is so good it requires pre-approval by the powers that be.

Or be one of only two guys on the planet still interested in Tammy Nyp, I guess. Er, better make that four guys, including Tom and some guy at Technorati, as well as Ireland’s Few and me.

  3. I lost my camera. It had videos on it.Very incriminating pictures, as well.

    Where do I sign up?

GIVE. ME. MY. 15 MINUTES, LEROY!

Oh, wait. You and Meg DON’T WATCH MOVIES, so once again, my Bad Seed/Leroy impressions—down the tubes.

  4. Marsha, if I found your camera, I’d watch every second. Just to see the video that goes with photos like this one and a million others.

  5. yeah….sigh. Many gems such as this….lost and gone forever. Actually, not really. Though I have hardly “backed up” or saved in any way, shape or form, any pics, videos, etc, I am an immediate downloader for the most part. The last party I did was on it, and all the stuff I think I just didn’t know how to work with.Otherwise, I’ve got more beauties such as the above…it’s not being able to take pics constantly that hurts.
