Taj Mahal Hotel

This place rocks.
Luxurious, clean, everything works perfectly, the staff is well-trained and friendly. Thanks for recommending it, Vijay.

And Mom, I can look out through the haze and see that hotel we stayed at in 1999. Not the ultra-expensive Park, but the place we were staying when you went south to visit Manisha for a couple days and I was there alone the night the earthquake hit and looked under my bed to see who was shaking it. Good times. What was the name of that place?

It’s quite frustrating to be sitting here in a room with a spectacular view of the city (on the 8th floor, looking toward the government buildings, India Gate to my right) and not have any time for sightseeing. But Saturday’s the day: no plans all day, and my flight leaves at midnight. The last day I was in Delhi before today, I took a crazy ride all over town hanging onto the back of a scooter driven by an intense little guy who didn’t speak English, looking for a kurta pajama that would fit me. Whatever will I do to top that this time? I have a couple of ideas.

Meanwhile, it’s all work for the next three days. No photo safaris until Friday afternoon (possibly) or Saturday (for sure), and since I forgot my gear for downloading the camera, don’t expect any pictures of me racing a rikshaw around Connaught Circle in a turban (or whatever) until Sunday or so.
