Two Worlds

Ah, the joy of T-Mobile. I’m on the way back from India, sitting at O’Hare waiting for my connection to Seattle, and this is the fastest and most reliable internet connection I’ve had in a while.

I never had another chance to go out and take pictures after my little carpet-shopping adventure on Saturday, but I snapped the shot above while getting into a taxi Monday evening to leave the Microsoft office where I had been working in Delhi. That’s the fountain in front of the big modern office building where Microsoft’s touchdown offices are located, and across the street there’s a bonfire burning in the vacant lot where 20 or 30 people (mostly small children, the times I passed by) live in tattered tents made from found materials. Meanwhile, 100 yards to my left while taking this picture there’s a brand-new building that houses a McDonald’s, a Subway, and a Sbarro.

Mom, this office is just a couple of blocks from the Bahai Temple we visited when we were in Delhi. I don’t remember the big office buildings nearby on that trip, and I think they’re all new in recent years.
