Blogging from Brazil
I meant to get out and get a good photo in Sau Paulo for everyone today, but didn’t get around to it. But I did work out, and intend to do so every day this trip. So that’s a net good thing, and meanwhile if you’re just dying for pictures of Brazilians, check out the Carnaval photos I took last year.
They didn’t fingerprint us or take our pictures going through customs and immigration this morning. Apparently they’ve dropped some of that stuff, which was done to get even with the US for post-911 “security procedures” we put Brazilians through. As my colleagues here have explained to me, Brazil had no actual system for doing anything with those prints and photos, so they decided to drop the charade. If only our country had such a results-oriented focus.
But no, we’re busy staying the course. CNN pitched in today, to make the case that leaving Iraq now would lead to disastrous results. No doubt. And those disastrous results would be even worse than if we had left last year, which would have been even worse than if we had left the year before, and of course leaving at any point over the last 4 years would have been more disastrous than not going to Iraq at all. So … let’s stay the course.
It’s called moral leadership. And we’re full of it.
OK, enough capirinhas, time for bed …

thanks, Tracy — if “we” is the same degree of old, I’m a happy old man.
Missing the cute little wife over here, though. Drinking with work buddies can only sustain a man so far …
