What year is it?

When a fan is paying tribute to this year’s NBA stars with an Etch-A-Sketch, it can’t really be 2007. Can it?

I used to watch every game of the NBA finals each year, back when Jamal Wilkes was smoothing in those jumpers for LA, Dr. J was the first Michael Jordan, and the Iceman and Kareem were still suiting up. And a few years later, like the great 1987 LA-Boston series, with Bird and Magic at their peaks. Or the 90s, and MJ, Scotty, and Horace …later, MJ, Scotty, and Dennis.

This year, I didn’t see a minute of it.

  1. I do so admire true etch a sketch artists. But, on the old days of basketball-before the primadonna/robber/rapist phase hit the Lakers and Air Jordans were a shoe—basketball finals WERE REALLY SOMETHING TO SEE! Have a freind (now bald) who dyed his hair gold and purple (blue? green? yeah—time and the death of brain cells)for every play off season—for the Lakers WERE the play offs in those days.Boston and LA. LA and NY…
The rivalries involved skill not media speak, and the tension was clock/point oriented- not waiting on the camera to pan Jack coming out the bathroom. I LOVED basketball because it was one sport I could really understand. Football always seemed too…world weary or something for me. The whole taking of land thing….imperialistic…too symbolic. And yet, I could watch BBall and just see talent and scores and why it was passed to him at that time, letting the clock run down to just enough time to get the 2…
And UCLA and John Wooten!!! Damn, those really were the days. Walt Frazier!!! Earl the Pearl!!!
    o, be still my heart…sigh.

  2. ’scuse me. don’t want to be a bother…again. I know my being here is always a …thin ice kinda thing…but–I can’t reach Meggie thru her blog–and I registered! (sigh. yet one MORE personality evolved)E-mails are always a slow hit with her and I unless my subject matter of record has some….validity in the scheme of things–which, well, we know how that goes with me.
Don’t see any entries after June 3rd. Has she been deblogged by some subversive, international spam underground? Kidnapped? Back in Kenya? Morphed into an all the way life in those action figure things you all are into now? HAS MY MEGGIE GONE INTO THE LIGHT?! Should I call her office?
    thank yew. carry on.

  3. Yes, you should probably call her office. She has become so obsessed with Second Life that I think she has forgotten she ever had a blog.

Oh, I guess that’s what you meant by “morphed into an all the way life in those action figures” … exactly. Into the light. But she seems happy.
