Yes I do remeber free golf at Waveland during the 'pre-season'. Even a better bargin than the usual low greens fee.

Ah, good. I like to think I bring some consistency to my game. Anyone can tank one hole, but it takes a special commitment to blow eighteen. If only we'd played 36.

Tom, you do indeed have the 18-hole record. George can string 'em up for one hole, but he never kept up that blistering 30-something pace for a whole round.

George, I almost said something about the insurance update. And to add one to your memories ... remember when we played the weekend before they opened the course in the spring, and there were twigs in the holes because the flags weren't out? The price was right, that's for sure.

Marsha, I knew you'd take Genarlow's side on that one.

First of all, the Sox fan who was griping about the Cubs fans wearing no shirts and getting sloppy drunk reminded me of these guys attacking a Royals first base coach at U.S. Cellular Field (the "new Comiskey"). Less than a year later a fan attacked the first base umpire. Just sayin'. Man, those ODF guys are full of half truths about EVERYTHING! :)

And George, I think you still have me beat, but I did once stand at the approach shot on 18 at Indian Valley and skull six balls into the water (given that hole layout, I was probably already lying four when I got there, too). The ground there was kind of spongy (it's the only place I ever played where the mud stung and burned when it got on you, so maybe the ground was eating the balls) and my drops kept sinking before I could hit them. My buddy Eric has called me "Tin Kep" ever since then. Har har.

Doug, do I still hold the 18-hole record for the day at Old Orchard? I think that's the day I met George and Donna, incidentally.

am I going to golf when we do the family meet on Isle of Palms soon? I have seemingly led some of my former readers to believe that I have already done so---w/you and Megan. Don't know how that happened---the lie. Usually keep them in a file...
Genarlo has my heartfelt sympathies, having had young sex myself, tho we were both underage. But, that Vick fellow? I fight dogs personally each and every day----in my home. I charge nothing for admission and resent the coverage he is receiving---the dirtbag. Gasbag? Your software folks' comment---liked that very much.

thanks for approving me, but won't come back to haunt often.

love, love.........

You forgot the rest of the 9th Tee story ("tales of a very persistent golfer"). The majority of those out-of-bounds shots headed straight toward Lake Shore Drive. Upon returning home that day I promptly called my insurance agent to up the liability coverage on my home owners policy just in case the next time one of those shots went bounding down LSD into a bus load of lawyers' kids.

Other fond Waveland memories:

Hitting and out-of-bounds shot on the 5th hole that actually went into Lake Michigan bringing new meaning to the term "casual water".

Holing the ball out of the green-side "sand" trap on that same hole on another day.

Walking down the fairway into a sudden wall of weather - a 20 degree temperature drop with the ensuing black clouds, strong winds and thunderstorms.

Always stopping off at the left-hand fairway bunker on the 9th hole so you could pick up your mail that you were having forwarded there so you would always get it.

Yes those were the good old days back before Waveland became "Sydney R Marovitz Glof Course".

"Don't try to kill the ball"

Isn't the Metra that train you can take to or from downtown and the University of Chicago, non-stop, after 7 in the morning without risking death or injury?

I took a really strange trip out there on the L a long time ago (the Jackson line I think). I was the one who introduced South Chicago to down parkas. I was the first. At the time I must have looked like a purple marshmellow.

Your paragraph about Golf reminds me of a book I saw in a bookstore in London recently and I made a mental note to hint you: "Golf Courses of the World: 365 Days" by Robert Sidorsky might be interesting for you when doing your next round-the-world-trip on OpenXML... You can select your locations based on new criteria.
