Defender

A co-worker sent me a link to a list of the hardest video games of all time.

Megan, considering Defender is #1 on the list, surely there’s a market for a free online guide to playing Defender. Maybe we should collaborate on something.

  1. Hey, I think I still have a copy of your manuscript somewhere (packed deep right now, but probably findable) if you need it.

I didn’t recognize many of the games beyond Defender — I did play a LOT of Bard’s Tale II (the last game on the list) with my roommate and music buddy Dave, though. We only did that when we couldn’t find the Infocom text games anymore. Now you can get the Infocom games for the flippin’ Palm OS — I’ve resisted as I doubt I’d ever get anything done again, though.

  2. Real Defender players know that the only proper way to play this game is to begin by quickly flying along the ground to shoot all the little men.

Doug once related to me something he overheard a guy in a bar say as he explained the game to a friend while doing just this - “the first wave is pretty easy, but after that it gets really f__king hard”.

When the going gets rough head for the mutant reverse line….
