The House

We’ve turned a corner: the inspections today turned up no surprises, and we’re headed for closing. So if all goes well, we’ll be living there by May. (A long close is best for us and the seller, for several reasons.)

We’ll be giving up the spectacular view we have now, but other than that one detail, the new place will be a step up in every way. And it does offer a glimpse of the lake (which is only a block away) from the front doorway.

We’re still feeling a bit superstitious, but since the house is now officially off the market I figure we can share a few pictures.

  1. It’s beautiful! Congratulations. Nice garden in the back, too. So is it the first level and then a single bedroom up top?

Nice view, too. Fantastic! Does May seem too soon or miles away now? Or both?

  2. I didn’t include photos of every room, because I just went through the photos I took and grabbed a few. The main floor has two bedrooms (one is pictured below) and a bathroom, upstairs has a bedroom with a separate area at the top of the stairs, and downstairs has a rec room, bedroom, bathroom and appliance closet.

That garden is out front, actually. It’s in a location that would make a great parking spot, so we may end up paving it eventually. Parking is very limited around there.

May seems just right. We’ll have possession by April, so we can take our time with a few things we want to do to the new place while there’s nothing in all the rooms. And I’m going to take some time off in April or May for getting settled in.

  3. The house looks really pretty. I can’t wait to see it! What do you need to do to it before you move in? Looks totally ready to me. I’m really excited for you two. Love, Mom/Lynn

  4. Wow — you’ve got a bunch of space, then! I was just having a hard time figuring out how things laid out. It’s beautiful. That bed upstairs is great — it’s kind of half-cathedral, half-canopy. And the cats will definitely dig it — have they ever lived somewhere with multiple floors? Ours were deeply confused for a couple days.

Yeah, after I posted that I realized the garden was on the front end of the house. Tomatoes are nice, parking is better.

Congratulations to you both again — your new place is magnificent!

  5. So you know, I didn’t get the server error when I posted just now. Have you been fiddling, or did it heal?

  6. No, I’ve not changed a thing. That $#%^@&! error is the bane of my existence. As banes go, it’s not bad, but still.

Lynn, we have a few trivial things to handle based on the inspection, and we think we might change the colors of a couple of rooms. Nothing big, just a list of stuff that would be nice to do when there’s no furniture. And my work schedule will have me extremely busy through March, so we don’t want to start on any of that until then. The current owners are living there and could use some time to get moved, so a slow transition works for everyone involved.

  7. I liked it and am glad the inspection went well. Iliked that little raised garden–but parking is a premium around there. So it probably does make more sense to have some off street parking. Anyway, Congratulations! A big step but one I am happy you have made.

    Love, Mom m.

  8. Great!
I’d take it too if I were looking around in your area… Seems to be renovated not too long ago. You should try to acquire some antique furniture for these rooms.
Looks as if finally you’re going to get earnest. Maybe there is another small secret coming in several months (just a shot in the dark)?
    Thomas

  9. PS: I got the server error…

  10. Well, Thomas, we certainly understand the importance of being earnest.

And no comment on the rumor you’re trying to start. :-)

  11. Man, it’s picture perfect! Do I understand it also has a basement?

    Congrats to you and Megan!

  12. Yeah, it has a basement, which is finished very nicely, but it doesn’t have the 1929 charm of the rest of the house so those photos didn’t make the first-pass cut. I’ll document things better soon.

  13. Very nice. And how cool that you will be so close to the lake.

  14. Looks awsome!! Is there garage in the back?? Well congrats none the less. I think a few people are dissapointed there is no astro-turf there though. I guess we’ll have to work on that. :)

  15. what “small secret”?
the rumor is already started. you might as well cough up the truth before the slander takes over.
very fishy, and i don’t mean that rottcat.

  16. Just teasing, Molly. We swear to God.

  17. Hey Scott B, there’s a garage in the basement, and driveway out front. But it’s a tiny old garage, so we’ll probably not put the car in there and use it for storage instead. Mmaybe we can astroturf the garage for an indoor putting green. :-)
