If you don't go to the big chain hotels it's much cheaper, but Switzerland is definitely more expensive than Germany. The current Dollar exchange rate adds to that.
Nutrition products are mostly swiss, you don't get cheap eggs from the Netherlands or cheap salad from France. You normally get bio-certified (eco or whatever it's called) local eggs and salad and that's much more expensive. But it's much better, too. Cheap discount supermarket chains (ALDI) are just emerging in Switzerland.
If you really come back for vacation call me.

Hi Thomas,

Unfortunately, this trip is all work with a few hours sleep each day. But I've seen enough to want to come back and see much more. It's a beautiful city, and the glimpses of the mountains across the lake are a tease.

But it's sure expensive, especially for those of us who get paid in US dollars. The exchange rate is close to 1 (.9, I think), and the breakfast buffet here at the hotel is 47 CHF, a beer costs 11 CHF, etc.

Hi Doug,
maybe even if you don't post much you'll read this.
I hope you can find the right spots around the lake for taking photos and the weather (and your schedule) allow it. I don't know if the big fountain in the lake at Geneva is active at this time of the year but if yes it might a nice shot. If you've some spare time perhaps it's worth a trip around (part of) the lake, Montreux for example. In the unexpected case you have much spare time you could do a day trip to Zermatt to shoot the Matterhorn...
If you like ice cream you should try Mövenpick. Among many others there's a Mövenpick at Montreux next to the lake and Harry's New York Bar (my favourite bar chain besides Trader Vic's).

Well, Tom, if you've been inside Orange World then you win. I've learned that CERN will be closed when I visit tomorrow. I'll try to get a nice shot of a security guard or something.

I hope you can get to CERN and can post your thoughts about it -- I bet it's a blast to be there. CERN (and Bletchley Park in the UK, but let's not change the subject) is fascinating -- not only would I like to go there, but I'd be very eager to read your impressions. And see your pigeon shots on the the Moiree Globe.

It's like the visual-nerd version of Orange World in Kissimmee, Florida. CERN may be cool for you jet-setters, but I've been to Orange World TWICE.
